The ministry expressed hope for a speedy reduction of tensions in the region.
“Uzbekistan consistently supports the One China policy, the sovereignty, territorial integrity of this country, in accordance with the generally recognized norms and principles of international law,” the statement says.
Disputes periodically arise between China and Taiwan over a group of islands located off the coasts of the provinces of Zhejiang and Fujian, in the bay near the port of Taizhou (PRC), which at the time of the crisis – by 1954 – were under the jurisdiction of China. The latest case of aggravation of relations is associated with the visit of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. The PRC considers Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan a violation of China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
