Uzbekistan urges India and Pakistan to exercise restraint

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan has expressed concern over the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.

In a statement issued by the MFA, the Uzbek side emphasized its deep concern over the developments in the growing conflict between the two neighboring countries.

"Uzbekistan is following with concern the escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan. We call on both sides to exercise restraint, act in the interests of peace and stability, and prioritize diplomatic dialogue in order to prevent a further deterioration of the situation.

Uzbekistan is ready to support any international or regional efforts aimed at de-escalating the conflict and resolving it through peaceful means," the statement reads.

The flare-up follows an attack on Indian tourists in Kashmir on April 22. In response, the Indian army launched "Operation Sindoor" on the night of May 7. According to Pakistani sources, airstrikes carried out by India resulted in the deaths of 26 people and left dozens injured.

In retaliation, Pakistan deployed artillery and claimed to have shot down five Indian military aircraft. According to Indian officials, seven civilians were killed and 35 others injured in Kashmir as a result of Pakistan's counterattacks.
