Uzbekistan and China to launch 30-day visa-free travel starting June 2025

Starting from June 1, 2025, citizens of Uzbekistan and China will be able to travel to each other's countries without a visa for up to 30 days, based on an intergovernmental agreement on mutual visa exemption. The visa-free regime, however, does not apply to employment, study, media-related activities, or any other undertakings that require prior approval from the relevant authorities of the respective countries.

The intergovernmental Agreement on Mutual Visa Exemption between Uzbekistan and China, signed in Chengdu on December 1, 2024, has now completed all required internal procedures in both countries, according to Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The agreement will officially enter into force on June 1, 2025.

The document governs the terms of mutual visa-free travel for citizens of both countries. Under its provisions, citizens of Uzbekistan and China are exempt from visa requirements for entry, exit, or transit for a stay not exceeding 30 days per visit, and no more than 90 days in total within any 180-day period.

It is important to note that the duration of each individual stay must not exceed 30 days. Citizens intending to stay for more than 30 days are required to obtain a visa in advance.

The visa exemption does not apply to individuals traveling for employment, academic studies, journalistic activities, or any other purposes that require prior authorization from the competent authorities of the host country.

Additionally, the agreement does not extend to visits to China’s Special Administrative Regions of Hong Kong and Macau.
