Sangardak tourism center breaks ground in Surkhandarya with $70M investment

The large-scale development project “Sangardak” has officially broken ground in the Sariosiyo district of Uzbekistan’s Surkhandarya region, according to the regional administration’s press service. With a total investment of 913.3 billion UZS, the project covers an area of 615 hectares and is being implemented at an accelerated pace.

Currently, concrete foundations for support structures and the starting station of a 1.6-kilometer cable car line have been completed. The center will also include:

  • Areas for zip-lining and picnicking
  • A health resort
  • A cultural and entertainment cluster
  • More than 20 restaurants, cafes, and bars
  • 296 retail outlets
  • 6 hotels, including 2 five-star ones
  • 10 guesthouses

The regional governor of Surkhandarya, Ulugbek Kasimov, visited the site to review the progress of the “Sangardak” project and the plan to transform the nearby Nilu neighborhood into a tourist village. During the visit, it was emphasized that the developments are being carried out according to international standards with a focus on quality and efficiency.

The project is being implemented with the support of Turon Bank, tourism industry stakeholders, and private entrepreneurs.

“Sangardak” is one of three major tourism initiatives underway in the region, alongside “Obikhayot” and “Omonkhona.” In December 2024, the President of Uzbekistan signed a resolution aimed at developing tourism infrastructure in the mountainous areas of Surkhandarya. Together, the three tourism zones will span a total of 945 hectares.

A special directorate is being established to oversee the management of these projects. It will handle land sales through online auctions and coordinate implementation efforts. Land plots will be available for purchase with installment plans of up to 10 years.

The full completion of the projects is scheduled for 2027.
