Uzbekistan forges closer economic and cultural ties with Italy's Lombardy region

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has received the governor of Italy’s Lombardy region. The two sides reached agreements to hold an Uzbek industrial exhibition in Milan, open a trade house, and launch an Uzbek Organic export line. Additionally, Uzbekistan may showcase its museum collections in Milan in 2026.

President Mirziyoyev met with the delegation led by Attilio Fontana, governor of Italy's Lombardy region, who arrived in Uzbekistan to attend the Tashkent Investment Forum, according to the presidential press service.

During the meeting, the parties discussed practical aspects of enhancing mutually beneficial cooperation, particularly in trade, economy, and investment.

Currently, Uzbekistan and Lombardy are collaborating on several projects involving tomato and saffron cultivation, the production of nonwoven textiles, knitwear, and food products. Plans are also underway to develop projects in the production of ready-made garments, auto electronics, construction materials, dairy and processed fruit and vegetable products, as well as public transportation.

The importance of expanding the portfolio of joint projects and further attracting Italy’s advanced technologies and investments into various sectors of Uzbekistan’s economy was emphasized.

Agreements were reached to organize an exhibition in Milan showcasing Uzbekistan’s industrial and export potential, to open a trade house, and to launch an export line under the brand Uzbek Organic.

To expand cultural and humanitarian exchanges, discussions are ongoing regarding the organization of an exhibition of Uzbekistan’s museum collections in Milan in 2026.

Governor Fontana, in turn, expressed his gratitude to the President for supporting the projects and initiatives of Lombardy’s business community. He reaffirmed his commitment to fostering wide-ranging partnerships with Uzbekistan’s regions.

At the conclusion of the meeting, President Mirziyoyev wished Attilio Fontana success in preparing for and hosting the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan.
