Volkswagen plans to launch car production in Uzbekistan
German automotive giant Volkswagen and Uzbekistan’s Uzavtosanoat have signed a strategic cooperation agreement. The announcement was made by Martin Sander, Board Member for Sales, Marketing and After Sales at Volkswagen Passenger Cars, in a LinkedIn post.

According to Sander, the agreement marks a significant step in expanding the brand’s presence in Central Asia. He described Uzbekistan as a “rapidly emerging and fast-evolving hub in Central Asia with huge potential,” where rising incomes and a growing demand for quality vehicles are creating favorable conditions for an automotive boom.
“The strength of the Volkswagen brand resonates with Uzbekistan’s growing middle-class, who we know are seeking high-quality German-branded cars,” Sander said. “We have a portfolio that is perfectly tailored to this market, with eight stylish sedans and spacious SUVs being exactly what the Uzbek customer is looking for.”
Under the current plan, Volkswagen vehicles will be supplied to Uzbekistan from the company’s production base in China.
“The proximity of our Chinese technology and manufacturing base will benefit customers greatly and will enable us to minimize our logistical carbon footprint too,” the Volkswagen representative emphasized.
As part of the partnership, local SKD (semi-knocked down) assembly will be established through a subsidiary of Uzavtosanoat. Sander noted that Alyans Auto possesses the necessary engineering and manufacturing capabilities, while UzAuto maintains a leading position in the country’s automotive market.
