ZTO Express plans to establish smart warehouses and industrial parks in Uzbekistan

Chinese logistics giant ZTO Express is planning to implement several projects in Uzbekistan.

According to the Ministry of Transport, during negotiations with ZTO Express President Xiang Liang Hu, Minister Ilkhom Makhkamov discussed prospects for developing the transport and logistics sector, as well as the implementation of infrastructure projects in partnership with Chinese investors.

The Uzbek side was briefed about ZTO Express’s operations, including cargo reception, sorting, storage, and final delivery to customers. Xiang Liang Hu proposed joint initiatives in several strategic areas.

Among them is the company’s intention to build warehouses at airports and establish smart logistics hubs. ZTO Express also expressed interest in creating industrial parks in Uzbekistan for assembling equipment and exporting it to neighboring countries, along with supporting the digitalization of customs clearance procedures.

Minister Makhkamov highlighted the potential for setting up logistics centers in the Navoi region. He also proposed cooperation between ZTO Express and the Tashkent State Transport University, including the development of educational programs focused on Chinese expertise in logistics services.

Both parties agreed to form a working group to determine next steps for addressing the discussed initiatives. On Uzbekistan’s side, the Center for Transport and Logistics Studies under the Ministry of Transport will take part in the group.

On June 11, Xiang Liang Hu met with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev during the Tashkent International Investment Forum. The ZTO Express chief presented plans to launch a digital platform to facilitate customs clearance and to create smart logistics warehouses.
