As noted, by 2030, the population of Uzbekistan is expected to exceed 41 million people, and the country’s economy will surpass $200 billion. Naturally, this will lead to increased demand for electricity.

The presentation highlighted the projects being implemented this year, as well as future plans. The main goals are energy generation, modernization, and improving energy efficiency.

In particular, by the end of this year, 12 solar and 4 wind power plants, along with 12 energy storage systems, will be launched. The total investment in these projects will exceed $5 billion, and their combined capacity will reach nearly 9 billion kilowatt-hours. In addition, construction of 11 more projects, worth a total of $7.2 billion, will begin this year.

Currently, 18 sectors account for one-third of the country’s total electricity consumption. For instance, water management pumps consume 6.5 billion kilowatt-hours annually. To address this, the plan is to modernize 12 large pumping stations and equip each with a solar power plant of 75–100 megawatts and a 50-megawatt storage unit. As a result, the electricity consumption of these pumps will drop by 2 billion kilowatt-hours per year, reducing total usage to 4.5 billion kilowatt-hours. This work will begin primarily at the Karshi Main Canal, where water lifting costs are especially high.

In the oil and gas sector, there are also plans to install a 240-megawatt solar power plant and 300 megawatts of storage capacity, enabling the generation of at least 600 million kilowatt-hours of electricity.

Overall, the meeting focused on transitioning 18 energy-intensive sectors to energy self-sufficiency. The President was also briefed on efforts to utilize solar energy in social institutions.
