An attempt to circulate counterfeit foreign currency was thwarted during a special operation conducted by the State Security Service (SSS), the Department under the General Prosecutor’s Office, and law enforcement bodies in the Andijan region.

During the operation, a citizen identified as B.T. was apprehended while selling $1,900 in counterfeit U.S. dollars to another citizen, M.M., in exchange for $900 in genuine currency. The counterfeit banknotes, all in $100 denominations, were confiscated as physical evidence.

A criminal case has been initiated under Article 176 of the Criminal Code (Production or Sale of Counterfeit Money, Excise Stamps, or Securities), and an investigation is currently underway.

Authorities also reminded the public that even individuals who unknowingly acquire and later transfer counterfeit currency may face criminal liability under the law.
