Regular Samarkand–Dushanbe flights resume after 7-year hiatus

Starting July 20, regular flights between Samarkand and Dushanbe have been resumed. The service is operated by Uzbekistan’s Centrum Air. The route was previously launched at the end of July 2018 but was suspended just a month later, in late August.

According to the Civil Aviation Agency of Tajikistan, Centrum Air now operates the Samarkand – Dushanbe – Samarkand flights every Thursday and Sunday. Ticket prices start from UZS 608,000, and tickets can be purchased online at centrum-air.com or at ticket offices.

On July 19, the same airline also launched flights on the Tashkent – Dushanbe – Tashkent route. These operate on Wednesdays and Saturdays, with tickets starting at UZS 653,000.

The resumption of flights is based on the air services agreement signed on March 9, 2018, between the governments of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.

According to Asia Plus, the government of Tajikistan recently announced the formal introduction of an Open Skies policy at the international airports of Dushanbe, Khujand, Kulob, and Bokhtar. The decree, signed by President Emomali Rahmon on June 12, 2025, abolishes the parity principle, which had previously limited the number of flights by foreign carriers to match those of national airlines. Under the new rules, restrictions on flight frequency, seat capacity, aircraft size, and even pricing have been lifted.

According to UzA, Somon Air and Uzbekistan Airways also operate flights between Tashkent and Dushanbe.

Air service between cities in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan was suspended in 1992 and resumed only in 2017. The first Samarkand–Dushanbe flight was carried out at the end of July 2018, but was halted by the end of August. At the time, Tajik Air cited changes to its flight schedule as the reason and promised a quick resumption, though no further updates had followed until now.
