According to the July 25 edition of the Uzbekistan Bunyodkori newspaper, the project to reconstruct the flyover in front of Tashkent International Airport, which was fully commissioned in October 2024, cost UZS 511 billion in total.
It is worth noting that in a presentation held in September 2023, the project’s estimated cost had been announced as UZS 463 billion.
During reconstruction, an additional overpass was built adjacent to the previous bridge. The project also added four on-ramps and two cloverleaf interchanges. As a result, the flyover now has the capacity to handle 5,000 vehicles per hour or 132,000 vehicles per day. New safety barriers were also installed as part of the project.
“The purpose of the newly installed barriers is to minimize vehicle damage and reduce the risk of injury to passengers in the event of an accident. These barriers use a new technology capable of rotating 360 degrees. This technology has been applied in Uzbekistan for the first time,” said Bobur Elmurodov, project manager at Koprikqurilish JSC.
The total length of the flyover is 693.5 meters, with a width of 62 meters. The project also included the construction of pedestrian and bicycle paths, as well as irrigation systems.
“We used modern technologies based on international standards to build the flyover. The work was carried out in collaboration with Russian research institutes. The structure was built using a composite monolithic method, which ensures high quality and durability for long-term use,” said Yuriy Ipatov, head of the project’s advisory team.
Reportedly, technical monitoring of the structure has been fully digitized, allowing the flyover to be monitored around the clock with real-time technical analysis.
After the reconstruction, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev inaugurated the flyover remotely on October 25, 2024.
The flyover along Bobur Street was originally built in 1967 and was previously reconstructed in 2008.
