Uzbek boxer Lazizbek Mullajonov has tested positive for a banned substance during an out-of-competition doping test, according to a report from the International Testing Agency (ITA).
The ITA announced that Mullajonov’s sample, collected on 11 June 2025, contained metasterone, a synthetic anabolic androgenic steroid prohibited under anti-doping rules. The test was conducted outside of any competition period.
Metasterone is a banned substance known to promote rapid muscle growth and enhance strength and endurance.
The boxer has been informed of the results and has the right to request analysis of the B sample.
The ITA emphasized that if the B sample is requested and confirms the findings of the A sample, the case will be considered a confirmed anti-doping rule violation. If the B sample is not analyzed, the A sample result alone will still be treated as a confirmed violation. The athlete will be given the opportunity to present an explanation.
In accordance with the World Anti-Doping Code, Mullajonov has been provisionally suspended from all competitions.
Lazizbek Mullajonov, 26, won the gold medal in the 92 kg category at the 2024 Summer Olympics and previously claimed a bronze medal at the 2023 World Championships.
