President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was briefed on measures to ensure the stability of Tashkent’s power system.

Tashkent continues to see population growth and active construction. Over the past year, 12,000 new facilities – including shopping and service complexes – have been commissioned.

All these factors are driving increased energy consumption. In response, 2.8 trillion UZS has been invested over the past two years in developing Tashkent’s power supply system. As part of this effort, 36 substations, 665 transformers and more than 2,000 kilometers of power lines have been modernized.

Nevertheless, many challenges remain. Currently, 46 substations and 207 transformers are operating under excessive load. Since the beginning of this year, the number of electricity consumers in the city has grown by 40,000, while demand has increased by 6%.

In addition, whereas periods of extreme summer heat previously lasted no more than a week, this year they stretched for 20 days. As a result, in July electricity consumption in the city exceeded 900 million kilowatt-hours.

These circumstances call for continued, systematic modernization. During the presentation, the Minister of Energy outlined plans for each district and neighborhood of the capital.

At the first stage, by the end of this year, 374 kilometers of power lines, 11 substations and 62 transformers will be upgraded. In 2026, modernization will cover another 788 kilometers of power lines, 35 substations and 145 transformers. In particular, transformers and networks in neighborhoods will be repaired or replaced with new ones.

The president stressed the approaching autumn–winter season and the need to complete all work under the current plan by 1 November.

Officials also reported on measures to ensure stable power supply during the cold season.

The president was additionally briefed on progress in nuclear energy projects. He instructed that all facilities be commissioned on schedule and to standard, and that stable energy capacities be created. The Cabinet of Ministers has been tasked with holding weekly discussions on improving energy efficiency.
