Uzbekistan seeks role for local firms in China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway project
Uzbekistan has proposed that China involve Uzbek companies in the construction of the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway, according to a statement by the Ministry of Transport.

Transport Minister Ilkhom Makhkamov held talks with Xuede Sun, General Director of China Railway (the state-owned railway company), and Jin Xing, Deputy Director of the Foreign Investment Department of China’s National Development and Reform Commission.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the current status of the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway project and addressed existing issues at this stage of its implementation.
Minister Makhkamov proposed considering the involvement of Uzbek companies in subcontracting work for the project, using national raw materials and production resources.
To boost freight volume and develop transport along the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan route, Uzbekistan also recommended granting export status to the Kashgar railway station.
In addition, during negotiations with China’s Minister of Transport Liu Wei, the sides explored prospects for the railway construction project, the development of the China–Europe multimodal transport corridor, and transitioning to an electronic system for exchanging road transport permit forms between the two countries.
